This is a choice maroon BDQ Airborne Beret as used by the Army of the Republic of Vietnam

The lock / action has lovely foliate engraving on both sides

and there is also some past oxidation staining closer to the tip

with a lovely aged blued patina overall

These were used for night time navigation about WWII Aircraft

Marine, and bears a USMC Eagle, Globe, Anchor (EGA) Device which is contemporary, and correct, for the age of this hat. As Marine equipment and accoutrements were rare during World War I, many were equipped with Army equipment, such as this. The Campaign Hat is in rough condition
